Description
Step into the heart of the Brochier Soieries workshop and discover a unique place where the traditional craftsmanship of Lyon silk is still preserved and practiced today.
The Brochier Soieries printing workshop is a private production site which, since its creation in 1993, has continually passed on its outstanding expertise.
This unique place in France still manually perpetuates silk printing techniques using the traditional Lyon “frame” method, block printing, as well as hand-painting on velvet pile fabric. With more than 3,000 frames—some dating back to 1950—the workshop produces a wide variety of designs by combining tradition and modernity.
During your visit, our printers will share the secrets of a Lyon silk-making expertise that was highly sought after by the great fashion designers of the 20th century. You will discover the techniques of frame and block printing: the quality of silk fabrics, the setup of rolls on long printing tables, preparation of colours, the smooth texture of pigment pastes, printing, drying, and fixing.
Upstairs, you will attend a demonstration of hand-painting on velvet pile fabric, a renowned Lyon specialty, and be amazed by the craftsmanship and the beauty of the hand-made patterns.
